Adara Godschalk is a contemporary artist whose journey began experimenting with paint before she could walk. Her early artistic expressions laid the foundation for a distinguished career in the arts. Her passion for art led her to study at Instituto Buena Bista (IBB) in Curaçao, an esteemed contemporary art foundation dedicated to nurturing and developing the talents of young artists from the island and the wider Caribbean region. Under the mentorship of distinguished artists at IBB, Adara quickly advanced, completing the program—which normally takes two years—in just one year, graduating in 2017.
In 2021, Adara graduated cum laude with honors in Fine Art from Willem de Kooning Academy in the Netherlands, one of Europe’s leading art schools. Her graduation show featured a groundbreaking performance piece and a collection of sought-after paintings, earning acclaim and acquisitions from private collectors and institutions alike, including the permanent art collection of Willem de Kooning Academy.
After graduating, Adara established herself in the art world, exhibiting widely across the Netherlands, including distinguished institutions such as Boijmans Van Beuningen and Art Rotterdam, among others. She also taught at various art academies. In 2023, she was awarded the prestigious Artist Start Fund from the Mondriaan Fund, recognizing her emerging talent.
Adara’s art is characterized by its fluidity and ever-changing nature, embodying the philosophy that to stay the same, one must constantly evolve. Her vibrant and playful visual language captures the essence of her creative spirit, making each piece a unique snapshot of her artistic expression. When asked how one can recognize her work, she humorously responds, “My art is known precisely because it defies recognition, constantly changing and challenging expectations”.
